Person dies on London Underground tracks in Chiswic

A person has died after being hit by a Tube train in West London yesterday morning (Sunday, November 17). Police and paramedics were called to Turnham Green station, in Chiswick, at around 10.50am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A person was declared dead at the scene shortly after. Their age and gender has not been made public.

The British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will now be prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest.

Transport for London closed the station soon after the tragic incident, with District line services suspended between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway/Richmond as emergency crews recovered the body. Severe delays were reported between Earl’s Court and Upminster until the early evening.

Photos taken by shocked onlookers show a number of police cars, ambulances and fire engines parked outside the Tube stop. An air ambulance was also filmed landing nearby in Acton Green Common.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Turnham Green Underground station at 10.51am yesterday (16 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
